The weather conditions in Salzburg inspired me to compose this musical snapshot in May 2003. It is a song about the sun, that on a Sunday, following an extremely long period of rainy, dark gray days, suddenly appears from behind the clouds, illuminating the town and the mountains. Crowds of people go outside to enjoy the sunshine and celebrate their town: children with ice cream, elderly people on park benches, families on their Sunday walk and tourists in front of Mozart's birthplace. Of course on Monday it rains again, but that is already another composition. – Theodor Burkali
At the end of 2019 the original version (oboe, bassoon & piano) was expanded by the composer at the suggestion of the publisher to include additional instrumentation possibilities.
