Erstdruck
The Cassation in E flat major ( with rare cast oboe, clarinet , horn and bassoon) by Johann Georg Lickl (1769 - 1843) was long considered lost . It was first printed in 1798 in Vienna by the publisher Eder . In the general musical newspaper from 1799 this work is reviewed on Page 205 / 206. The work must have the reviewers very much, for he calls Mr. Lickl on to compose more of these works , " he might acquire merit" .
It was not until about 20 years ago , a complete copy of this print was found in a Hungarian library. The editing is problematic for old prints from today's perspective . Most of this composition was printed in Commission of the then publishers. You promised yourself to high turnover , such as in works for piano . The result was that proofs were not made for reasons of cost and these prints numerous errors and little dynamic Einzeichnungen con-tained . Fortunately, a hitherto unnoticed copy of the time could be used in 1800 for the present edition. It is preserved in the University of the Arts in Bern ( Switzerland ).
