This second part-volume contains mixed choruses composed by Reger between 1904 and 1914. Most are sacred works, including the great motets op. 110 (Mein Odem ist schwach, Ach Herr, strafe mich nicht!, O Tod, wie bitter bist du), the Acht geistliche Gesänge (Eight Sacred Songs) op. 138, and the fragmentary Vater unser. Functional liturgical music is represented with the Easter motet Lasset uns den Herren preisen, the Vier Kirchengesänge (Four Church Songs) and the English-language Responsories. With the secular works, the Zwölf Chöre aus dem Volksliederbuch (Twelve Choruses from the Volksliederbuch) form a substantial portion, flanked by Reger’s setting of Good Night written for a school book, and the Abschiedslied for Fritz Stein.
In January 2008 the Max-Reger-Institut (MRI) in Karlsruhe began publishing a scholarly-critical edition of the works of Reger (RWA). As a Hybrid Edition it is exploring new approaches in editorial techniques. For the first time, in this edition the digital component for this volume will no longer be supplied on a data storage device, but published in an online portal.
