The present edition has as its purpose the presentation of the works of Karol Szymanowski in a form fully consistent with the composer's intentions, and is based on a comparison of the original sources, which are the autograph manuscripts and the first published editions. Any observed discrepancies are discussed in the Editorial Notes included at the end of each volume. Editorial alterations or complements of the musical text, Orchestration, dynamics, indications of tempi, phrasing and articulation are enclosed in square brackets. Mistakes and omissions in the manuscript scores and misprints in the early editions have been corrected but not distinguished typographically in the printed text; they are, however, commented upon in the Editorial Notes. Mere changes of musical orthography are neither indicated in the text nor remarked upon by the editors. The present edition also sets forth - in the form of variants given in the Editorial Notes - those traditions of performance which originated during Szymanowski's lifetime and which had its approval.Introduction to the Complete Edition
